Sylvamo has been under selling pressure as its parent company International Paper sells almost 20% stake in the company. The paper production industry is mature, and paper producers are switching from uncoated freesheet to packaging as the demand for packaging has increased with the death of brick-and-mortar retailers and an increase in shipping as retail has moved online. These factors and the lack of dividends have led to a mispricing of the company. In our analysis, we conclude that the intrinsic value of Sylvamo is twice the current market value based on sustainable expected earnings relying on Greenwald’s Earnings Power Value model.
